Squirrely versatile

Rafael draws attention to the scourge that is the grey squirrel.

My mother has the right idea. She catches squirrels in squirrel traps and then dumps them in the pond. They drown in five seconds or less. As she puts it, ‘it’s them or the bulbs’.

  1. Squirrrel meat is good. having just returned from the Veneto in northern Italy I can vouch for the fact that squirrel meat is good to eat and highly nutritious. I think it a waste to throw perfectly good vermin in a lake/river. Why not shove a spike up their butts and barbecue them? a little BBQ sauce and I bet they taste better than anything that comes out of any of the high street supermarket pre-packaged plastic coated tubs. I also ate horse, snails and frogs - all of which were highly overrated.

  2. My Dad used to eat squirrels in the war. He often salivates when we’re out for a walk these days. That might be age though…
